Picture a stream. Now picture that same stream blocked by a dam of sticks and branches. The blockage causes an excess of water on the one side and a deficiency on the other. If the dam were removed, the water would flow freely again.
The body has "streams" of energy running throughout the body. This energy is called "qi" - sometimes considered our "life force". This force keeps us healthy.
When there is pain or injury or disease, there is a blockage in our life force. Removing that blockage by placing acupuncture "needles" on that path resumes that flow and returns the body to balance.
